SPESIALE GEBRUIKE VAN DIE MIKROGOLFOOND WENKE:

1. Om te voorkom dat die boonste kors van vleispasteitjies pap word, kan ‘n klein stukkie foelie van dieselfde grootte as die pasteitjie met die blink kant nab o op die boom van die mikrogolfoond geplaas word. Maak dit toe met papierhanddoek. Plaas die pasteitjie onderstebo op die papierhanddoek neer en mikrogolf dit vir 3 – 4 minute indien dit gevries is of 1 -2 minute indien dit ontvries is.
2. Om amandels te pel word 250ml water vir ongeveer 2½ minuut op volle krag gemikrogolf
totdat dit kook. Voeg amandels by en mikrogolf vir 30 sekondes. Dreineer en trek dan die velle af.
3. Om amandels te rooster, word die gepelde of gevlokte neute in ‘n verbruiningsbak geplaas en vir 4 -5 minute op volle krag gemikrogolf terwyl dit elke minuut geroer word.
4. Om konfyt en jellies sag te maak om mee te smeer word dit vir 3 sekondes per 250 ml op volle krag gemikrogolf.
5. Vir nagereg en vleis wat geflambé word, kan brandewyn verwarm word deur dit vir ongeveer 15 sekondes op volle krag te mikrogolf. giet oor die kos en steek aan die brand.
6. Sjokolade wat gesmelt word moet in ‘n vuurvasteskottel geplaas word. Indien dit ‘n doopsous is, word dit vir ongeveer 2½ minuut per 30g op ontvries gemikrogolf. Vir algemene doeleindes word dit vir 30 tot 45 sekondes per 30g op volle krag gemikrogolf.
7. Rooster klapper deur 100ml droë klapper egalig op papierbord te versprei. Mikrogolf vir 5 – 6 minute op volle krag en roer elke minuut.
8. Om rosyne en gedroogte vrugte te laat uitswel, word 250 ml water vir 2 – 3 minute op volle krag gemikrogolf en dan word die vrugte bygevoeg en vir ‘n paar minute laat staan.
9. Om tamaties te skil, plaas dit in ‘n sirkel op papierhanddoek in mikrogolf en mikrogolf vir 10 tot 15 sekondes op volle krag. Laat staan vir 5 minute en skil dan.
10. Wanneer jy vleis vinnig wil mariner, kan die marinde vir 1 – 2 minute op volle krag gemikrogolf word en dan oor die vleis gegiet word.
11. Wanneer jy harde bruinsuiker wil sag maak, plaas 200g suiker in glas-bak. Voeg 1 sny witbrood of aartappelskyfie by en maak toe. Mikrogolf vir ongeveer 25 sekondes op volle krag en laat staan vir paar minute.
12. Om seker te maak dat jy al die sap uit suurlemoen/lemoen kry, mikrogolf vir ‘n paar sekondes in mikrogolf.
13. Om suurlemoen of lemoenskil te droog. Plaas dit op ‘n glasbord en mikrogolf dit op volle krag tot die sap uitgedroog is. Verkrummel dit en bewaar in lugdigtehouer.
14. Om ‘n vinnige glanseersel vir wortel of ham te maak. Gebruik glasmaatbeker, voeg 150g bruinsuiker met 10ml mosterd en 45ml rooiwyn daarin. Mikrogolf vir 1½ - 2 minute op volle krag en roer dan goed.
15. Versuikerde heuning kan oop vir 1 -2 minute op volle krag gemikrogolf word. Roer goed.
16. Wanneer jy pap skyfies, pretzels of soutbeskuitjies wil bros maak, mikrogolf vir 10 – 30 sekondes op volle krag. Laat staan vir 1 minuut.
HERE IS A TEST YOU CAN USE AT HOME TOE DETERMINE THE APPROCIMATE POWER OF YOUR HOME MICROWAVE:

Vervang alle metaalpanne/bakke met glas-plastiek-of silicon-panne/bakke
• Indien die gereg op die stoof geroer moet word, moet dit ook geroer word as dit in die mikrogolf gaargemaak word.
• Indien ‘n gereg soos bv. lasagne nie geroer kan word nie, moet dit op lae hitte gaargemaak word.
• Omdat die mikrogolf ‘n stoomhitte gaarmaakmetode is, moet vloeistowwe drasties verminder word---- --voeg liewer later nog vloeistof by.
• Melk,water,vleisekstrak ens. Kan by 100% krag gemikrogolf word, maar sodra mayonnaise of room bygevoeg word,moet dit verlaag word tot 50% krag.
• Gebruik minder sout ---voeg liewer later og sout by indien verkies.
• Geregte met baie suiker,vet en/olie in, sal gouer gaar word,aangesien mikrogolwe daarop konsetreer.
VLEIS:
• Sout moet later gedurende die kookproses by vleis bygevoeg word,aangesien dit vleis taai maak • Kleiner,ewe groot stukkies vleis kook gouer en meer eweredig .
• Pak diKker stukke vleis aan die buitekant en die dunner kante na die middel,aangesien buite kante gouer gaar word.
• Geregte wat op die stoof n olie of botter gaargemaak word,kan in die verbruiningsbak ook in olie /botter gaargemaak word.
• Ontdooi vleis vor gebruik------waar moontlik moet dit vir ‘n kort staantyd gelaat word voor dit verder gaargemaak word.
• Om geregte te verbruin kan paprika/masala oor gesprinkkel word.
• Prik wors se velletjie voor jy dit in die verbruiningsbak sit .
• Hoenderlewers moet stukkend gesny word voor dit gaargemaak word---anders bars dit.
GROENTE:
• Groente het die minimum vloeistof nodig, gevriesde groente het geen vloeistof nodig nie.
• Groente wat in ‘n mikrogolfoond gaargemaak word, behou hulle kleur, tekstuur en geur beter as die wat op ‘n konvensionele manier gaargemaak word.
• Indien ‘n bak met ‘cling wrap’ toegemaak word,prik dit ,sodat oortollige stoom kan ontsnap.
• Prik aartappels, sodat stoom kan ontsnap.
• Rangskik halwe of heel groentes in ’n kring met die middel oop.
• Plaas sagte of dun dele van groente na die middel,aangesien die buitekant meer krag verkry bv. aspersiepunte.
• Staantyd is belangrik ----dan kry die binnekant kans om gaar te word, sonder dat die buitekante oorgaar word.
• Groente kan ook in die mikrogolf geblansjeer word:[1k water en 2k groente by 100% krag vir ongeveer 4min. Spoel af in yskoue water, laat goed afkoel en vries.
EIERS EN KAAS:
• Eiers en kaas moet by lae temperatuur gaargemaak word.
• Eiers wat te lank gaargemaak word. is rubberig.
• Eiergele moet geprik word.
• Eiers kan nie in die dop gaargemaak word nie----dit sal ontplof.
VIS:
• Bedek dit voor die gaarmaakproses.
• Bedek vis met broodkrummels om kleur te gee
• Rangskik vis met die dik kante na die rand van die bak.
• Skulpvis moet by 60-70% krag gaargemaak word,sodat dit nie bars nie.
• Vis moet eers ontdooi word.
• Groot stukke vis moet eers ontdooi word.
KOEKE EN POEDINGS:
• Gebruik ronde koekpanne
• ‘n Ringpan werk uitstekend
• Panne moet gesmeer en met bakpapier uitgevoer word.
• Bedek koek met kombuispapier en bak tot gaar,maar nog effens klambo-op---laat staantyd toe.
• Behalwe blaardeeg, werk pasteideeg nie goed nie.
• Verminder die gaarmaaktyd van ‘n gewone resep met omtrent ‘n ¼ van die tyd vir ‘n gewone oond.
• Vrugtekoekbeslag is baie swaar en moet dus liewer op ‘defrost’ gaargemaak word.
• Om poedings donkerder te laat lyk-----vervang ‘n deel van die suiker met bruinsuiker.
VRUGTE:
• Vrugte inlê,konfyt,piekels vrugtejellie ens. Werk baie goed.
• Vrugte en groente kan met skil en al ingelê word.
• Flesse hoef nie gesteriliseer te word nie-----dit is sommer deel van die inmaakproses.
• Groente en vrugte kan rou op pragtige maniere in die bottles rangskik word, voordat die stroop oorgegooi word.
PAP:
• Pap werk goed in die mikrogolfoond
• Dit moet nie te lank gaargemaak word nie-dit word rubberig

Making ghee. Keep 1½ - 2 cups malai (milk topping) in a big glass bowl and microwave on high for 15-20 minutes to get desi ghee without burning your kadhai (wok). Stir once or twice inbetween.
Blanching almonds to remove skin. Put almonds in a small bowl of water and microwave for 3 minutes or till water just starts to boil. After the water cools, the almonds can be peeled very easily.
Freshening stale chips, biscuits or cornflakes. Place the chips or biscuits in a napkin, uncovered, for about 1 minute per bowl or until they feel warm.
Wait for a few minutes to allow cooling and serve.
Boiling (actually microwaving) potatoes. Wash potatoes & put
them in a polythene bag. Microwave high for 5 minutes for 4 medium potatoes.
Making khatti mithi chutney. Mix 1 tbsp amchur, 3 tbsp sugar, some water along with spices in a glass bowl. Microwave, stirring in between.
Warming baby's milk bottle. Do check the temperature of the milk on your inner wrist. The bottle will not become hot, while the milk will.
Softening too-hard ice cream, cream, cheese and butter.
Making dry bread crumbs from fresh bread. Crumble the

Vervang alle metaalpanne/bakke met glas-plastiek-of silicon-panne/bakke
• Indien die gereg op die stoof geroer moet word, moet dit ook geroer word as dit in die mikrogolf gaargemaak word.
• Indien ‘n gereg soos bv. lasagne nie geroer kan word nie, moet dit op lae hitte gaargemaak word.
• Omdat die mikrogolf ‘n stoomhitte gaarmaakmetode is, moet vloeistowwe drasties verminder word---- --voeg liewer later nog vloeistof by.
• Melk,water,vleisekstrak ens. Kan by 100% krag gemikrogolf word, maar sodra mayonnaise of room bygevoeg word,moet dit verlaag word tot 50% krag.
• Gebruik minder sout ---voeg liewer later og sout by indien verkies.
• Geregte met baie suiker,vet en/olie in, sal gouer gaar word,aangesien mikrogolwe daarop konsetreer.
VLEIS:
• Sout moet later gedurende die kookproses by vleis bygevoeg word,aangesien dit vleis taai maak • Kleiner,ewe groot stukkies vleis kook gouer en meer eweredig .
• Pak diKker stukke vleis aan die buitekant en die dunner kante na die middel,aangesien buite kante gouer gaar word.
• Geregte wat op die stoof n olie of botter gaargemaak word,kan in die verbruiningsbak ook in olie /botter gaargemaak word.

EIERS EN KAAS:
• Eiers en kaas moet by lae temperatuur gaargemaak word.
• Eiers wat te lank gaargemaak word. is rubberig.
• Eiergele moet geprik word.
• Eiers kan nie in die dop gaargemaak word nie----dit sal ontplof.
VIS:
• Bedek dit voor die gaarmaakproses.
• Bedek vis met broodkrummels om kleur te gee
• Rangskik vis met die dik kante na die rand van die bak.
• Skulpvis moet by 60-70% krag gaargemaak word,sodat dit nie bars nie.
• Vis moet eers ontdooi word.
• Groot stukke vis moet eers ontdooi word.
KOEKE EN POEDINGS:
• Gebruik ronde koekpanne
• ‘n Ringpan werk uitstekend
• Panne moet gesmeer en met bakpapier uitgevoer word.
• Bedek koek met kombuispapier en bak tot gaar,maar nog effens klambo-op---laat staantyd toe.
• Behalwe blaardeeg, werk pasteideeg nie goed nie.
• Verminder die gaarmaaktyd van ‘n gewone resep met omtrent ‘n ¼ van die tyd vir ‘n gewone oond.
• Vrugtekoekbeslag is baie swaar en moet dus liewer op ‘defrost’ gaargemaak word.

• Vrugte inlê,konfyt,piekels vrugtejellie ens. Werk baie goed.

• Groente en vrugte kan rou op pragtige maniere in die bottles rangskik word, voordat die stroop oorgegooi word.

OM 'N KOEKRESEP AAN TE PAS VIR DIE MIKROGOLF:
Vermeerder sowel die vloeistof as die bakpoeier met 'n kwart (25%). Mikrogolf dit 'n derde of 'n kwart so lank as wat die konvensionele resep voorskryf. Die beslag sal 'n sagte drupbestandheid hê, en net een laag moet op 'n slag gemikrogolf word.
ONTVRIESING VAN BEVRORE DEEG:
Mikrogolf dit 15 - 20 sekondes per 150 g by volle krag. Die deeg sal koud maar bewerkbaar wees.
KLAM SOUT:
As sout nie wil strooi nie, mikrogolf dit 1 - 2 min per potjie by volle krag.
MICROWAVE TIPS:
Never over-cook food as it becomes tough and leathery. Give the dish a little standing time before you test it, to avoid over cooking.
Never pile food on top of each other. It cooks better, evenly and quickly when spaced apart.
Food cooks better in a round container than in a square one. In square or rectangular bowls, the food gets overcooked at the corners.
Do not add salt at the time of starting the cooking as it leads to increase in the cooking time.
Do not add more water than required, however a little water must be added to prevent dehydration of the vegetables. When the vegetables get dehydrated, there is a loss of natural juices as well. But addition of extra water increases the cooking time.
Do not deep fry in a microwave (the temperature of oil cannot be controlled).
Do not cook eggs in their shells (pressure will cause them to explode).
Do not cook & reheat puddings having alcohol (they can easily catch fire).
Do not use containers with restricted openings, such as bottles.
Use deep dishes to prepare gravies, filling the dish only ¾ to avoid spillage.
Do not use aluminium foil for covering dishes in the microwave mode.
Do not reheat foods (sweets like ladoos, burfi etc.) with silver sheet, as it leads to sparking.
When using the convec mode put the dish on the wire rack to get even baking.
Always preheat the oven when you want to use the convec mode. Grilling does not need preheating.
When making tikkas or other tandoori delicacies cover the plate beneath the rack with aluminiun foil to collect the drippings.
INTERESTING USES OF A MICROWAVE:
Making ghee. Keep 1½ - 2 cups malai (milk topping) in a big glass bowl and microwave on high for 15-20 minutes to get desi ghee without burning your kadhai (wok). Stir once or twice inbetween.
Blanching almonds to remove skin. Put almonds in a small bowl of water and microwave for 3 minutes or till water just starts to boil. After the water cools, the almonds can be peeled very easily.
Freshening stale chips, biscuits or cornflakes. Place the chips or biscuits in a napkin, uncovered, for about 1 minute per bowl or until they feel warm.
Wait for a few minutes to allow cooling and serve.
Boiling (actually microwaving) potatoes. Wash potatoes & put
them in a polythene bag. Microwave high for 5 minutes for 4 medium potatoes.
Making khatti mithi chutney. Mix 1 tbsp amchur, 3 tbsp sugar, some water along with spices in a glass bowl. Microwave, stirring in between.
Warming baby's milk bottle. Do check the temperature of the milk on your inner wrist. The bottle will not become hot, while the milk will.
Softening too-hard ice cream, cream, cheese and butter.
Making dry bread crumbs from fresh bread. Crumble the
slice of bread and microwave the bits of slices for 2-3 minutes. Mix once and microwave further for another minute or two. Give some standing time to the moist bread to dry out and then grind in a mixer to get crumbs.
Drying herbs. Fresh parsley, dill (soye), mint (poodina), coriander (dhaniyan), fenugreek greens (methi) — all greens can be dried in a microwave, preserving the green colour. Give them some standing time to turn dry. Use them in raitas and curries.
Melting chocolate, butter, jam, honey, etc. Dissolving gelatine.
